Get Ready for a superstar in a supermarket

JT

Magnum makes a vegan version of their awesome ice creams. Who knew? We didn’t until we spent a day in Mount Cotton IGA recently. And that wasn’t the only surprise to be found in the aisles, NRL legend Johnathan Thurston was also there filming the latest in our series of Get Ready Queensland TVCs for the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
The Get Ready Queensland initiative is all about making sure Queensland residents, particularly in the north of our state, are prepared for disaster season. Whether you’re facing the prospect of an approaching cyclone, coping with flooding or trying to stay safe in a bushfire, being prepared in advance can make a huge difference to how you deal with disaster. With his strong connections to Townsville and the far north, making sure everyone is ready for disaster is a project that’s close to JT’s heart and the team at Get Ready Queensland has been working closely with him and Engine for several years now to raise awareness and help keep people safer.
This year’s ad follows JT on a shopping trip as he picks up the items he needs for his Emergency Kit and helps fellow shoppers grab the things they need too. He even gets to show off his footy skills when he throws a pack of toilet paper down the aisle into the arms of a waiting dad. And yes, the great man nailed it on every take.

A fun day in store for everyone
The fabulous team at IGA Mount Cotton made sure the store looked perfect and the shelves were well stocked, director Hannah Ariotti from Traffic Film Production ticked off her shopping list of shots with style and a smile and producer Justin Lyons made sure we kept the trolleys moving and didn’t block the aisles.
Photographer Steve Bull also joined us to shoot a series of stills featuring JT and the talented cast for use in Out of Home, digital and social media.

In between takes, JT was still the centre of attention, chatting with fans, taking selfies with awestruck kids… even signing a couple of footy shirts that some diehard Maroons supporters bought especially because they discovered he was in their neighbourhood.
