Celebrating 21 Years Of Good Things Celebrating 21 Years Of Good Things

A unique way of working that is working for everyone.

An agency’s heart and soul isn’t the name on the door or the funky office space. It’s the people. We have a unique culture that not only attracts the very best, but also nurtures and inspires everyone here to take it to the next level. Engine may be based in Brisbane, but our resources are global; an eclectic mix of brilliant minds from all walks of life, each bringing something unique to the table.
We’re not your typical 9 to 5 agency. We work around the clock, and around the world, adding value to our clients – even while they sleep.

We believe nothing good comes from being chained to a desk. That’s why we promote a more elastic way of working that gives staff the freedom to get out there.

When you encourage people to follow their passions, to live with purpose and to open their minds through study, the result is better work. More intelligent, thoughtful and insightful work.

Just take a look at the world-class campaigns we’ve delivered for our amazing clients. You’ll get the idea.

Tim Weger
Strategist & Managing Director

Tim is one of those guys you’ll love working with. His leadership style is inclusive and informal; he encourages everyone to have a voice, and values the contributions of every team member. His enthusiasm, loyalty, ethical values and smart strategic mind have helped define the agency’s positive change culture.

As Engine’s MD, Tim has been trusted by C-level executives across both the public and private sectors. He has been instrumental to the success of many Queensland Government campaigns over the last decade, as well as for brands such as University of New England, Brisbane Airport Corporation, RSPCA and Ladbrokes.

Tim has many strengths. But crying through movies – the sad ones, the happy ones, and even the chick flicks – isn’t one of them.

Kory McAvoy
Creative Director

Anyone who has met Kory will attest to her being one of the nicest people in the industry. Her compassion for people and the world around her comes through in her work, which is renowned for its beautiful art direction and strong sense of humanity.

Before Engine, Kory held long-term positions at agencies such as McCann Erickson and SapientNitro Brisbane – working on brands that include Virgin Blue, Brisbane Marketing and Michael Hill. Her talent has won her a multitude of creative and effectiveness awards, including an Australian Effie, three AMI Queensland awards, gold and silver W3 awards and over 70 BADC awards.

Always seeking greater inner knowledge and balance, Kory is also the co-founder at The Academy of Grounding, where she teaches yoga and meditation. She trains in Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing, too – proving that being nice doesn’t necessarily mean being a pushover.

Mark Smith
Head of Copy

Mark moved back to his native North Yorkshire in 2011, to bring up his children in the English countryside. But it’s a small world these days, and his creative mind spends the best part of every day in Queensland.

Mark has well over 20 years’ experience working on many of the world’s top brands. Prior to working with Engine, he was Executive Creative Director at McCann Erickson, and creative director at both Publicis Mojo and cummins&partners Brisbane. He has also worked at Clemenger BBDO Brisbane, Y&R Sydney and TBWA in the UK.

His awards haul includes over 80 BADC awards – including Best in Show – New York Festivals, Mobius, AMI Queensland, ADMA, Asia Pacific Adfest, DMA (UK) and two Australian Effies.

Mark has completely forgotten what warm feels like.

Kym Vercoe
Strategist & General Manager

Kym brings a wealth of top-level strategic thinking and business acumen to Engine Group. In her previous role as International Marketing Manager for Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, she was responsible for the company’s strategic marketing plans across North America, EMEA and APAC. Spending just shy of three years living in LA - she helped turn Bundaberg into the best-selling craft ginger beer brand in the U.S.

With over 25 years’ experience both client and agency-side, she has a solid understanding of the ins and outs of what makes a great brand campaign – and how to get there. Client-side she’s held senior-level roles in FMCG, retail and Tourism & Events Queensland; and agency-side for brands including Virgin Australia, Providence South Ripley, KFC Queensland, Parmalat, Dreamworld, and more. Her misspent youth on the Gold Coast included working in retail stores and waiting tables in restaurants where she learnt the fine art of customer service.
